How to Juggle

How to Juggle

Start by practising with one ball.  Hold the ball in your right hand, and throw it up to about head height, catching it in your left hand.  Then throw it from your left to your right hand, again, with the ball reaching about head height before dropping down.  Repeat until you feel confident to try with two balls!

Moving on to two balls, have one in each hand to start.  Throw the ball in your right hand, as before, up to around head height.  When the ball reaches its highest point, throw the ball in your left hand to around the same height so that you can catch the first ball in your left hand, and the second in your right hand.  Repeat until confident to try with three balls!

To juggle with three balls, start with two balls in your right hand, and one in your left. Follow the instructions above, throwing the third ball (the other ball in your right hand), when the second ball (thrown from your left hand) reaches its highest point, catching this third ball in your left hand.

Keep throwing each ball just as the ball thrown from the opposite hand reaches its highest point.  You will always have at least one ball in the air, and you will never have more than one ball in either hand.

Handy Hints:

Juggle facing a wall so that the balls don’t keep running away from you.

Stand over your bed or sofa whilst juggling so you don’t have to bend down so far to pick up any dropped balls.

If you’re struggling to react quickly enough, try throwing the balls a bit higher – this can make them harder to control, but it does give you more reaction time!
